CHAMPAIGN — A new book written and illustrated by two current alumnae of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign introduces 3rd graders to the nuts and bolts of automotive mechanics and engineering.
“Jenny Saves a Convertible” is the very first e-book written and illustrated by U. of I. college students to be posted through a task with Illinois Engineering Ambassadors, a general public outreach and experienced progress team for students in the Grainger Faculty of Engineering.
The group reaches more than 1,000 schoolchildren just about every year, providing significant-quality educational events and arms-on functions on the U. of I. campus and in elementary and secondary educational institutions in the Champaign and Chicago parts.
Bioengineering professor Jennifer Amos, who co-launched and co-directs the team, explained she intends for “Jenny” to be the inaugural volume in a collection of children’s publications that will pique young people’s curiosity in science, technological innovation, engineering and arithmetic.
“The e book job commenced as a way to greatly enhance the outreach that we’re doing in universities and get kids energized just before we pay a visit to,” Amos explained.
Amos elevated the money for the University of Illinois Push to publish 100 copies of “Jenny” and other stories prepared by engineering students who take part in the project. The “Jenny” guide will be provided to schoolteachers this fall to study with their learners and will complement mastering routines led by Illinois Engineering Ambassadors during classroom visits or pretty much.
